During World War I, my father focused on making aircraft for the army. My dad also designed
heavy artillery vehicles.After that he was promoted to managing director of Austro-Daimler in 1916 and awarded several government accolades. Pretty sweet I think! In 1921, my dad designed a car for a wealthy Austrian count and film maker, Sascha Kolowrat. The "Sascha" was an open-air two-seater that reached speeds of 90 miles per hour, an extreme at the time. My dad made us move in 1923 to Stuttgart Germany. In Stuttgart he got a job at Daimler Motor Works, where he was their technical director.Then he tried to convince them to build one of his cars but they said no so he resigned and moved back to Austria which was in 1929. But in early 1930 he moved back and designed his first prototype in Germany.

Before I was born my dad married my mom and had me and my sister Louise. My father helped make the Volkswagen Beetle in 1931. I was born while my dad was racing cars. I just finished helping design the first Porsche 356. It was made today, June 8 1948 at an Austrian town called Gmund with my team. As you might imagine me around cars lead to me driving my own car at the age of ten. In 1951 Prof. Ferdinand Porsche Sr. died at age 75. In 1954 the first Porsche speedster was made. 1959 was the development of a new Porsche and it was a type of a Porsche 901. In August 1963 was the first time they could sell Porsche 901 to the customers. But because a French car in the late fall of 1963 took the name of 901, Porsche renamed theirs Porsche 911, and now it is known as Porsche 911.Even though my father s known for creating the Porsche and is kind of famous I still wish that he had not because I have to live up to all those expectations. As you probably know my father also helped design the Volkswagen Beetle.The first Beetle was built in my own garage.
Even though I have to live up to high expectations there are a few advantages like how I get to see all the race cars before they even or available to the public.Also having a car designer dad is pretty cool! You learn a lot like that my dad had to add the spoiler to most of the cars because if you go over 75 mph the back tires might lift off the road!
After the Porsche 911 and talking about the Volkswagen, I helped produce the V W-Porsche 914 and 914-6.
During the 1970`s and 1980`s, the makers attempts to distance Porsche from its great design brought the company to the edge of disaster9. The 24 model, “a people’s Porsche”, developed with Volkswagen, also as the 928 were far from the expectations.
Even then I expected that a lot of people would be excited to own a Porsche but even then I didn't expect that 70 years later people would still be driving the cars. Another thing I never expected was that some of the cars would be over 75,000 dollars and that there are 8400 people working for the Porsche factory which I might add that the only company is in Stuttgart Germany.Also that the Porsche company designed a SUV. In 1991the limited 944 Turbo Cabriolet is introduced in Europe and produced for 1 year. The car is nearly identical to the Turbo coupe. In 1993 Porsche grandson Ferdinand Piech becomes chief executive of Volkswagen, which means "the people's car" in German. His revolutionary strategy helps boost economies of scale and save the company from a possible bankruptcy but avoids slashing thousands of excess jobs. 2005, Porsche says it plans to buy a stake of about 20 percent in Volkswagen, which provides about 30 percent of the content in Porsche sports vehicles. September 2005 Porsche says it controls 10.3% of V-W group.

The official "date of birth" for the first Porsche is considered being June 8, 1948. Number one, a two-seat 356 with a 1.1 litre centre engine, 40 HP weighing 650 kg. The following 50 speciemens of the so-called 356/2 were hand built in Gmünd/Kärnten (Austria). These cars almost resembled the classic 356 and are today, if at all to be found, almost priceless.
In late 1949 the Reutter company in Stuttgart (Germany) are given the assignment to build 500 body works for an adjusted model of the 356. This became the classic 356. With a 1.1 litre engine and 40 HP, it reached because of the good aerodynamics a speed of 140 kph, and was sold at a price of DM 12.000. At that time Ferry Porsche thought that it was impossible to sell more than 500 cars, a more than pleasant mistake. On March 15, 1954 car no 5.000 left the factory.

In 1953 the famous Porsche label badge is seen for the first time. In April 1965 the last Porsche 356 leaves the assembly line after 17 years of production. All in all 81.003 Porsche 356 were built together with about 1.194 in various Carrera versions.

1959 saw the beginning of the development of a new Porsche. On September 12, 1963, a new generation Porsche designed by "Butzi" Porsche, a prototype called 901 was introduced at the IAA. Not until August 1964 did it become possible to deliver the first 901 (911) to customers. In late fall of 1964 the French car producer Peugeot objects to the name 901 because the combination of three - with a zero in the middle - was patented. Porsche responded right away, changing the name to 911 and offered the car to the German and international markets at a price of DM 21.900.

The 911 was "born" in the year (1963) when JFK was assassinated and its look still survives. It became one of the biggest sports cars in the world and is - together with the 356 - the foundation of the success Porsche has had so far. On June 15, 1996 Porsche no 1.000.000 was delivered.

1938: Under the direction of Ferdinand Porsche, the first assembly lines for Volkswagen are erected in Wolfsburg. The finishing touches have been put to the Type 60, which is ready for series production. But the Second World War got in the way. A jeep was created on the basis of the type 60. It was not until 1946 that the Volkswagen went into series production.

1948: Production of the first Porsche 356 cabriolets. The very first Porsche 356/1 developed by Ferry Porsche and his proven team is completed in the Austrian town of Gmünd and receives technical homologation on 8June.

1951: Porsche's first international success in Le Mans

At the Frankfurt International Automobile Show, Porsche presents the 911. The underlying concept of an air-cooled flat engine in the rear is retained.




From 1965 through 1969, Porsche's 912 eased the transition between the 356 and the 911.
First available to the public in August 1965, the 912 outsold the 911 almost two to one that year, with 6,401 912s produced versus 3,390 of the quicker 911s.Constructed in late 1966, the 100,000th Porsche built was a 912 Targa® police car.

The Father: Dr. Ferdinand Porsche:

Long before he thought of starting his own car company, Ferdinand Porsche worked to build racecars at the dawn of the automotive age. As a young engineer, he designed the first electric/gasoline hybrid -- in 1900. Over his career, he worked with Daimler, Mercedes, Daimler-Benz, Volkswagen, Auto Union, and others for nearly 50 years. His independent design firm was even responsible for the creation of the Volkswagen Beetle in 1931.

The Son: Ferry Porsche:

It seems appropriate that Ferry was born while his father was at a race. As he got older, he became a draftsman and test driver at his father's firm, but he was most instrumental in the design of the first ever Porsche, the 356 -- which Ferry worked on while his father spent 20 months in a prison in Dijon, France, as a war criminal. Ferry had also been arrested but was soon released. To keep the family firm afloat, he designed race cars and this first-ever Porsche sports car.
